Procrastination is like a credit card… It’s a lot of fun until you get the bill!
When we are tired, it becomes even harder to focus on tasks that we are meant to be completing. Let’s learn how to reset and finally leave ‘Procrastination Station’. It’s completely natural to lose motivation and come off the tracks. But, eventually you need to get back on your path towards productivity. Some of us are more prone to procrastination than others, but we could all use a little help in this department! I have some top tips to share that have really helped my clients to get cracking and achieve what they want.
There are a lot of reasons you might be procrastinating. It could be due to distraction, a bit of laziness or even the fear of failure of the task you’re meant to be working on. How do you overcome this?
ACHIEVABLE GOAL SETTING – When you start your day, set yourself achievable goals and prioritize them. Make a note of these and tick them off as you go.
DO THE WORST FIRST – There’s always going to be something on your list that you are dreading. Get this done first so that you can focus on things you enjoy. Now you won’t have that item nagging you in the background.
GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK – Taking a break isn’t necessarily a form of procrastination. Taking breaks will help you from feeling overwhelmed by a task, recharge your batteries and allow you to focus on it again without being distracted.
BE PRODUCTIVE & RELAXED -There will be times when you might need an extended lie-in. That’s ok – you can still make this time work for you. Do things to assist your productivity like making a to-do list on your phone.
Stop Getting Distracted By Devices
Speaking of distractions… One of the biggest contributors towards procrastination are our phones! There are ways to overcome this that don’t involve switching off your phone – something not many people can do, especially parents.
Delete Apps That Distract You – We all have those apps on our phones that we automatically click on as soon as we unlock our screen. Most of these apps serve no real purpose and don’t help us be productive. Remove these apps from your phone or move them away from your home screen so they aren’t the first thing you see.
Organizing Your Home Screen – Instead of having all your apps on your home screen, shift them around. Keep only the necessities on your home screen. It is also ok to leave one guilty pleasure on your home screen – this is what keeps you sane. It could be an app like Sudoku or even Pinterest.
Use Your Phone For Productivity – Even though phones can take away from how productive we are and tend to increase our procrastination – they do serve a purpose! Our phones are amazing for scheduling our days and for taking notes. Make sure you are using these apps to help boost your productivity. If you find yourself scrolling all day long on Instagram, schedule a slot for that on your phone instead!
If you are serious about overcoming procrastination, the only way is to take action – here are five proven tips to help you. This gets the productivity ball rolling and will encourage you to achieve your goals without distractions getting in the way. I would highly recommend reading “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy who speaks about setting your goals and getting to work. Don’t forget to celebrate your successes on the way – as small as they may be!
